Joyce Calloway

Joyce Calloway is a 51-year-old German Shepard, who was born and bred in rural Texas. She's a friendly, helpful person, though takes no-nonsense and is very disciplined. She often dresses in a utilitarian manner with militaristic aesthetics, with a holstered revolver at her side.
Enlisting in the army shortly after turning 18, Joyce served her country with honour and distinction for over a decade, and eventually ascended to the rank of captain. However, after being severely injured by an IED that detonated close by, her left leg had to be amputated from below the knee, and she consequently had to retire from the military. For a couple of years, she struggled to find a new calling in life. Joyce travelled all around the United States, before returning to her hometown and setting up an army surplus store, which she has been running ever since. She currently lives in a small but cozy house out in the country, not too far away from the small town that her store is located in.
She’s a very patriotic person; she’s known to wake up at six in the morning to raise the stars and stripes on her front porch, as well as often spouting the values and principles of the US-of-A. Being a proud southerner, she's also very fond of her home state of Texas, and enjoys being hospitable to anyone she meets, frequently inviting people around her place to drink, cook, or just to chat. Beyond enjoying working and running her store, she likes sitting on her front porch to watch the sunset in the evenings, as well as reading, fishing, hiking, playing her guitar, and working out. She's also an avid birdwatcher, though she keeps this particular hobby to herself, being somewhat embarrassed about it.
Being rather fond of second amendment, naturally, one of her favourite pastimes is going out to shooting ranges for some good old fashioned target practice. Joyce is very fond of having cookouts with others, frequently finding herself behind a charcoal grill during the evenings - this being the source of the smoky smell that clings to her fur and clothing most of the time. She's very open and welcoming to both friends and strangers, though her slightly intimidating appearance can be off-putting to some. A gruff voice, and a resting face that looks like a mixture between seeming unimpressed and annoyed doesn't help in that regard, either.
She can be a little strict, though not in a controlling or overbearing way. She's the type of person that values proper manners, integrity, honesty, and a respect for authority. She's not too fond of freeloaders and those with bad attitudes. She appreciates people referring to her as ma'am or missus Callaway, if you're only acquainted with her. You respect her, and she'll give that same respect back!
She's also gifted in the sense that she can alter the minds and bodies of those around her! It's a skill she discovered during her teenage years, and she has made use of it ever since. Those who hang around Joyce for extended periods of time can expect to find themselves starting to act and talk more like her. She sometimes might choose to have a little fun with her powers too, and turn people into southern anthros like herself, or even on occasion, make them literally into herself. Furthermore, whilst she has no children, she does have some caring, motherly qualities to her. Consequently, she occasionally enjoys to alter the minds, and sometimes the bodies of others, to temporarily make them into her son or daughter!
Her transformation powers are limited to only affecting others - she can't change herself in any way, at least at the moment. Additionally, she never chooses to make any of her transformations permanent, either. Once she's had her fun, she'll change the transformed person back to normal. As for Joyce's passive power of making people more like her the longer that they're in close proximity, this wares off once separated from her.
